The second is still going strong, and my father in law uses it every day. We had two of these hand held games. The first one was played so much it literally burned out after several years. It has been a superior mental flexibility tool for him (he is 73), and we have been begging the company to come out with a new version. It would sell very well- just do it, please.
Doesn't accept a lot of words that are acceptable in regulation Scrabble. Their suggestion was that I return it to where I bought it. For instance "za" "qi" to name a couple. I've reported this the to manufacturer and they say they're sorry, but they don't have a fix for it. Nice. It's entertaining, but doesn't take the place of the real game.
I can't believe that price of $[.]. I guess that the choices are biased according to the point values of the letters, resulting in a common shortage or absence of vowels on the rack, but almost every game will include 'z' 'x' and 'q' consonants. Over the years I have exceeded 400 points only a few times, usually around 405-410. for it, if that much. But it encouraged me to go looking for a new and improved version. I guess it has antique value now, but I had hoped to find a newer version of better quality and much lower cost. The processor was slow even when I bought it that long ago. I've owned this toy for years and paid about $[.]. I score myself by rewarding a 'C' for 250 total points, a 'B' for 300 points, and an 'A' for 350 points.
Playing against the computer at its highest, or even next-highest, setting is unbelievably slow. I found the best way to enjoy the game is to set it for Express - 2 players and play both sides with the goal to reach the highest total score after the 8 rounds allowed.Although the game uses all the letters available in the board game, they are clearly not chosen at random. Last night I reached an unbelievable 470 total points, with everything just falling in place and that will never happen again. No luck :
This looks like the same game that I have had for many years. Often the computer takes wayyyy too much time to play. Or is this another case of pricing an item wayyyyyyyyyyyy above the true value.
I think that I might have paid around $[.]. Believe me, is fun, but not THAT much fun. It is my "library' game, along with an original BW version of Gameboy.
[.].+ is unbelieveably ridiculous. for it. So, I am wondering is this some "new" version of the game I have.
And I agree with some of the older reviews regarding the limitations of repeated tile selections and vowels are definitely hard to come by. I have to lay it down and return later.
It is extremely addictive- I take it everywhere with me. I have been looking all over for a quality SCRABBLE handheld, and I finally found it here on Amazon. I have always loved playing scrabble, and this little portable system really does live up to it's expitations. The game is simply amazing. I cannot stop playing it. I don't know why Hasbro stopped producing them, but I am happy I got my hands on this cool game.5 SHOOTING STARS. (If you love Scrabble, you will love this game)
